Solutions To Kick Those Bad Habits Part 3 - Sweets

If there's anything I struggle with while trying to stick to a healthy diet, it's avoiding sweets. I love desserts, I love chocolate, and ice cream isn't too shabby either. ;)

I can tell you right now that this one is speaking to me. If there's anything I struggle with while trying to stick to a healthy diet, it's avoiding sweets. I love desserts, I love chocolate, and ice cream isn't too shabby either. ;) The great thing is there are sugar alternatives and flour alternatives you can use to make some amazing desserts yourself at home and still enjoy sweets.

You can also make some amazing desserts with heavy whipping cream, cream cheese, berries, sugar-free jello or sugar-free pudding, and a variety of other things. You just have to get creative and think outside the box. Or just do like me and find lots of great recipes online. ;)

Even if you don't want to make things but you want some sweets to enjoy every now and then, there are great products out there so you can indulge sometimes. ChocZero products and Rebel ice cream are our two favorites.  Not to mention I LOVE the story behind these two companies and what they stand for. Check them out and see how awesome they are! I'd venture to say you won't regret it.

I will give you this advice though before you go down the path of indulging in sweets - especially if you're just starting your healthier diet. This one is easiest to break and lose cravings for when you completely eliminate sweets of any kind from your diet for at least a month or so. Sugar is an addiction and creates the same effect in your body as drugs. It's that powerful and toxic. So when you eliminate it and allow your body to detox from it, you lose the cravings AND you lose the taste for it.

When we first started our keto journey four years ago, we didn't eat any sweets for months. The first time I tasted something, thinking I'd eat just a tiny piece of something at a party we were attending, it tasted TERRIBLE. It was SO sweet I didn't like it at all. I wish I had stayed on that path. hahaha!

There have been times here and there where we've been at a special event or visiting with friends and family where desserts have been offered and I would take a small piece so I didn't feel like I was missing out while everyone else was enjoying the party. Because of that, I feel like I have a harder time saying no to it now and it doesn't taste as bad. lol! So if you struggle with this just know that I am right there with you. But when I have the determination to say no to the sugary things and instead just enjoy the low-carb, no-sugar items I know are okay for me to eat, I feel much better - physically AND mentally.

I find a lot of great recipes on Pinterest plus a lot of the books I read have great recipes included. You can find a low-carb or keto alternative for almost anything you enjoy eating. It might taste a little different if you're used to sugary sweets but if you detox like I suggested and then add it in later - and slowly - you'll find that it tastes really good.

Some of my favorite desserts to make are peanut butter cookies, lemon cheesecake mousse, mug cake, berry cheesecake bars, and cream cheese/jelly wraps. I also like to make some whipped cream and mix some berries in for a delicious dessert. I'll try to share more of my favorite dessert recipes soon! Writing this post has made me realize I haven't shared many of those. ;)

Do you have a favorite low-carb dessert? I'd love to hear about it! :)
