Sometimes Our Eating Doesn't Go As Planned
Sometimes we aren't able to eat the foods we normally eat and it makes our diet a challenge.
As I mentioned earlier this month, I haven’t had quite as much time to sit and write as I’ve had before but I wanted to give a little update and share some info with you. James and I started our keto lifestyle almost four years ago and it’s been so great for us. We have felt good, we have more energy, our health has been fantastic, and of course we lost a good amount of weight too. It’s been wonderful and I’ve said since the first months that I would be making this a forever lifestyle. I decided I had no interest in ever going back to the lifestyle that got me where I was.
Fast forward to this month and we are in a place where there is a huge focus on carbs (mostly bread and pastries) in the meals and not a lot of options that are keto friendly. Finding things that are sugar free can sometimes be a challenge in the US but for the most part you can usually find something. Finding things that are sugar free and keto friendly in Europe - not so much. It’s not necessarily that their food is less healthy - I honestly think it’s better because there’s a lot more homemade, fresh food and a lot less processed food. But it’s still not low-carb and a lot of their meals revolve around carbs.
It’s been a challenge.
Plus, when you’re traveling to another country you want to experience the culture and try things you might not normally have at home so we’ve tried to enjoy things that they have here and not worry as much about our diet. Not because we don’t care what we’re eating, but because we didn’t want to obsess about food and cause ourselves unneeded worry and frustration while we’re here. Well, let me just tell you that we can TOTALLY feel it. It’s amazing what this kind of food does to your body and how quickly it can take effect and make you feel lethargic, bloated, sick, etc.
We have enjoyed trying some new things and taking a small break from analyzing all the food we have but we are both SO ready to get back to our normal way of eating. I can’t even tell you how much better I feel when I’m sticking to a low-carb diet and not filling my body full of sugars and carbs.
The good news is, even when you “mess up” or go off your eating plan, you can go right back into it and your body will thank you and you’ll start to feel great again. So if you find yourself in a situation like ours where you lose a little control over what you’re able to eat or you decide to partake and enjoy something you wouldn’t normally eat. It’s okay. Just jump right back in as soon as you’re able and start eating the way that your body needs and you’ll start to feel great again. :)
